Special Requirements
Appointments must be made for All semen analysis procedures, even if the sample is to be collected at home. Patients collecting at home must phone Monash IVF for an appointment that coincides with the estimated time of arrival of the sample. (See Patient Instruction Sheet for details) An appointment for all testing is made by calling Monash IVF on either 9429 4603 or 9590 8325.
Patient Preparation
1. Abstain from sexual intercourse or masturbation for 3 to 5 days. 2. A private room is available at Monash IVF for collections; St. Vincents Pathology Collection Centres have no facilities for on site collections. Alternatively the sample can be produced at home, BUT must be delivered to Monash IVF within 1 hour of Patient collection (Samples for fertility investigation will not be processed outside these parameters. Sample post vasectomy will be processed but may require a second collection if any sperm are detected). 3. Produce the sample directly into the jar provided (available from any St. Vincents Pathology Collection Centre). Label the sample jar with your name, date of birth and time of collection. Condom Collection is not suitable, although special condoms ($33.00) are avilable from the Monash IVF Accounts Department. You are required to empty the contents of the special condom into the container provided. 4. do not use any form of lubricant, as this will affect the sperm and thus the test results. 5. It is important to collect the entire sample. Please note on intsruction sheet if any was missed. 6. Keep the sample at room temperature. Do not carry the container in your hand or underneath clothing. Carry the jar in an outside pocket or in a bag. 7. Deliver the sample to your nearest allocated St. Vincents Pathology Collection Centre (see back of instruction sheet), or directly to Monash IVF with your request form and instruction sheet -completed
